The 1981-82 Men’s Basketball Team reached the NCAA Division III Final Four after three pulsating victories in the NCAA tournament played in front of standing-room only crowds at Warrior Gym.

Dubbed the “Beach Boys,” the team was led by a starting lineup of Doug Cornfoot, Rico Thompson, David Walls, David Atkins and Curt Wooden. The starting five averaged between 13.7 and 11.2 points with the sixth man, Lee Lewis, adding 9.7 points a game.

Under head coach Doug Sanderson, the Warriors finished second in the Far Western Conference. With a 15-11 regular season record, the Warriors received a bid for the NCAA tournament with home games through the quarterfinals.

Stanislaus edged Whittier College, dominated Bishop and beat Capital in a comeback win, to advance to the Final Four in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Members of the team also included Tom Chandler, Richard Beecher, John Stuart, Jeff Rowe and Rick Glenn.
